Clarification of allegation – Mrs Tina Kendall has requested public confirmation that she has not submitted a claim against Hemsworth Town Council. It is confirmed that she has not submitted a claim against Hemsworth Town Council.

  • Defibrillator incident – Hemsworth Community Centre – 17/6/22 – clarification from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service – There were comments on social media recently as it was thought that the defibrillator at Hemsworth Community Centre was in some way out of service (not registered, code not known etc). Clarification has been sought and received from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) regarding the incident.

When someone calls 999, if the nearest defibrillator is more than 600 metres away, they are not directed to it as it would likely take too long to retrieve it. In this particular incident, according to YAS, the person who made the 999 call was more than 600m away from the defibrillator at the community centre hence they were informed there wasn’t a defibrillator within 600 metres. It did not mean that the defibrillator at the community centre wasn’t ready – please be assured that it is/was ready and registered.

  • New storage unit at Hemsworth water park – asbestos  – Several concerned residents have contacted the council regarding possible asbestos in/around the new storage unit at the park. During the unit’s deconstruction phase in/near Dewsbury (the unit was already built) asbestos was found in the roof panels but that was professionally removed by a firm called Smart Asbestos. During the (re)construction phase in the park no asbestos was found.
  • TV licences – clarification – The council has three TV licenses – one for “Hemsworth Community Centre”, one for “Hemsworth Water Park” and one for “Lakeside Café Bar”. Neither of the latter two relate to the flat at the rear of the Lakeside as that would have to have its own, separate license anyway. The park (generally) already had a license as does the café bar specifically. The license for the park has been cancelled and the license for the café bar will remain in place.
  • Expenditure at the Lakeside flat – clarification
  • No plants bought have been bought by the council for the garden at the rear of the café bar.
  • Some new carpet was procured due to a sizeable leak through the living room ceiling which resulted in significant water damage, hence the carpet having to be replaced. Both the council (as landlord) and the tenant contributed to the cost of the carpet.
  • An ‘Echo Dot’ speaker was purchased but the council (as landlord) was reimbursed by the tenant.
  • The redecoration was authorised by the council (as landlord). Some of the work was done by council staff but some of the work was arranged/paid for by the tenant.
  • Bonfire night – car parking
The car parking on bonfire night was free and as such no charges were made nor was any money collected.
  • 14/12/21 – Dredging/clearing the lakes at Hemsworth Water Park – quotes obtained
The only company from whom the council sought and obtained quotes to dredge/clear the lakes was Ebsford Environmental. They provided a range of quotes from £70,000 to £150,000, dependant on how the dredged mud/sediment was handled (left on site, taken off site or a combination thereof). Needless to say there wasn’t a budget on this scale so the matter was left in abeyance (and then the pandemic started)
  • 18/10/21: – Christmas Day and Boxing Day – Lakeside Café Bar
The last time the café bar was open on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day was in 2019 with the takings respectively being £1,592 and £572.
